Atlas Foundation Acts to Restore Yonkers Boxer’s Dignity
Shamus O'Brien, touted as "Yonkers Favorite" when the popular lightweight Irish boxer battled numerous champions and served as a trial horse for up-and-coming youngsters, will finally have his dignity restored. He died in 1959 without as much as a grave marker. The Atlas Foundation is acting now to restore his long lost dignity.

Linda Palucci lost her husband, Gene, to a brain tumor and cancer on March 21, 1992. She kept a diary during the trying days of his illness, and its aftermath. She chose to share her innermost feelings in an ebook, now in paperback, called "Out of the Slippery Pit" in the hope it will help others.

It's great to be alive, to breathe fresh air, to hear the robins sing and see the rising sun, to be free, to be part of mankind. Life, despite its trials and tribulations, is joyous; it is ethereal, evaporating, sooner or later, into, for the faithful, the heavens.
72 commentsNaked Emperor: Trolleys in Yonkers
"Clang, clang, clang, went the trolley ..." The words of that old familiar song bring memories, to me, of the wartime 1940s in Yonkers, N.Y. That city, more hilly than the "city by the bay," boasted trolley cars until the early '50s when buses took their place (all in one day!)
26 commentsStill More Grampa's Favorite Songs, Singers
There were so many great early 20th Century popular songs and singers that grampa loved that this third compilation of his favorites became necessary. It features a brief bio of the performers and a representative video of their work. If you're not familiar with the genre, you have a treat in store for you.
39 commentsA Flat Tax? Yes, But on Net Worth
Poor folk don't give the rich and powerful their due. We just kind o' keep making excuses for 'em, always thinking they must o' meant well, but they just can't get the square pegs in the round holes. We need a flat tax on net worth, not on income.

Why do government agencies -- city, state and federal -- invariably, and inevitably, wait until it's too late before taking action? It seems to me that government at every level should create a panel whose job it is to uncover potential problems.

Remember the old bromide about the husband who makes all the big decisions in his family -- on war and peace or capital punishment. His wife only decides whether to buy a new car or vacation in Hawaii. What decisions do you find yourself pondering?
9 commentsMore Grampa's Favorite Songs, Singers
The popularity of my earlier compilation spurred this follow-up of some of the great songs and singers that your grandfather knew and loved a few decades ago. There's a brief bio of the performers and a representative video of their work. If you're not familiar with these artists, you have a treat in store for you.
55 commentsTo Any Dog That Bites: Bite the Dust
It's a rare bird indeed who doesn't like, or love, domesticated animals, especially pets. But, naturally, animals often behave as animals. Incidents of dogs biting people are too frequent. The problem needs to be addressed.
